Been working on making changes to the site lately. Aside from the obvious layout changes,  added a MIXTAPE section which will house DMV mixtapes, Mixtapes you might wanna hear and DJ mixes. Send in your stuff and after listening it’ll be added. My bad if it gets messy, I’ll get to it.

Distracted

The Mona Lisa

I’d apologize for not having posted these earlier this week, but I’m sure once the dudes see pseudo-topless pics of Megan Fox — yes, Transformers Megan Fox — you’ll understand why I was a bit distracted from the blog. I’ve missed some pretty dope tracks, some tracks that are ok but are gonna end up all over the radio, and some tracks from our local stars so I’ll just save time and post them all here.

Topless pics of Megan Fox + Free Tracks = Greatest Post Ever?

Lil’ Wayne feat. Kanye West — Lollipop remix (almost didn’t even post this one)

DJ Khaled feat. (in alphabetical order) Akon, Ace Hood, Boosie, Lil’ Wayne, Plies, Rick Ross, Trick Daddy

N*E*R*D — Spazz

Kidz in the Hall feat. Sean Price & Buckshot — I Pledge

More NSFW Megan Fox over at wwtdd

**CRS for those that don’t know is “Child Rebel Soldier” comprised of Kanye, Lupe & Pharrell

The video to Kidz in the Hall’s “Driving Down the Block” features all the stuff you see in see in rap videos on MTV: Sexy ladies, Bentley’s & Ferrari’s, flannel and pastel pink suits, balloons…wait, what?

The video is on point. I see car dealerships like this on every other corner over in Manassas with the sleaziest dudes working the lots (no offense to the families of the sleazy). If you don’t have the track already, here you go.

We told you to remember the name. Perhaps the greatest MC of our generation just recently dropped a new mixtape. Eli Porter from the Class of 2005, introduced through an epic rap battle we posted down there, gives us The Elicist (ed. note: I don’t know what that means but it feels right). I don’t usually post mixtapes without listening to them first, but Eli is the best, man. He did it. You can’t argue with that. I’m can’t wait for the Eli mixtape with DJ Khaled. That’ll really be the best.

Side note: I’m gonna guess Weezy’s work on this mixtape is the reason he’s been pushing back his album. Justified.

(via The Exactly via 2dopeboyz)

UPDATE: This shit is too funny.  These extra remixes off Eli from the Class of 2005’s freestyle are worth posting just because of the cover art. “I’m the best/I told you dat/This dude like dat/He runnin from the cat”

Damn tell me that wasn’t your favorite battle scene when you were growing up. I get all nostalgic whenever I see this movie on TBS on a Sunday afternoon. Apparently Play became a born-again Christian since they broke up and last I saw Kid he was making a cameo on an episode of Sister, Sister and/or Smart Guy.

Damn, see what I mean about nostalgic?

These House Party memories were all dug up because of this tee someone just bought for me from Karmaloop. Check them out, they’ve got some dope new releases.

Sir Gnarles

DangerMouse is definitely one of the greatest producers of our generation. The song is really good and this video is deep. I’d score mad points with my old lit teacher for pointing out the allusion to the Last Supper at the beginning of the video.

I really think the fake Gnarles Barkley is at least 12x smarter than the real Charles Barkley, and if you don’t believe me there’s video evidence after the jump.

If you haven’t gotten The Odd Couple yet, fuck you.

Just playing, but seriously, get it.

Nadastrom

That American Boy track has been everywhere lately and I doubt it’s gonna go away for a while. I posted it a bit ago down there along with a couple remixes. DMV DJ’s Dave Nada and Matt Nordstrom who’ve both been pretty successful on their own have put out a remix together under their Nadastrom name and its pretty dope for those club heads. I’ll go ahead and dub this…

American Boy DMV Remix — Nadastrom

(via discobelle)

I’m not even gonna pretend like I can afford every tee, jeans or sneakers that I like, so it helps when stores I like have their big-ass sales. I hate it when stores mark a pair of socks down 80% so they can advertise “Up to 80% off”, but who am I kidding, it’s not like it’s gonna make a difference. I’m still dropping by.

There are a lot of new emcees coming up these days and some of them have a lot of potential, but you gotta pay respect for the dudes that have been doing this hip-hop thing for a while. Kokayi is a relative vet when it comes to the DC game, even though his debut album came out last year. Get a copy of that, he produced and rhymes all 12 of those tracks. He’s found time to produce, write AND tour, all while holding a regular 9-5 and taking care of his family. That’s real hustle. “Know Us Mayne” is an instant classic, from the beat to the lyrics to the video. Watch it and take in it’s DC glory.

I was getting ready to schedule a trip up to New York for the Rock the Bells tour and went over to the site to see what day it was exactly, when I noticed a new change. Apparently the people over at Guerilla Union read my last post about their being assbags for not scheduling a stop in the DMV and added a show for July 27th at the Merriwether Post Pavilion. Some artists have been dropped from this show, but it’s still probably gonna be one of best shows of the summer. Tickets for the show go on sale May 17th @ 10 am, so make sure by 9:55 AM next Saturday you are somewhere near a computer with a credit card.

The DC show is set to feature:

  • A TRIBE CALLED QUEST
  • NAS
  • MOS DEF
  • DE LA SOUL
  • RAKIM
  • METHOD MAN & REDMAN
  • RAEKWON & GHOSTFACE
  • IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE
  • DEAD PREZ
  • MURS
  • SPANK ROCK
  • KID SISTER
  • JAY ELECTRONICA
  • WALE
  • B.O.B.
  • KIDZ IN THE HALL
  • AMANDA BLANK

WITH SPECIAL GUESTS: THE PHARCYDE

HOSTED BY: B-REAL, SUPERNATURAL & SCRATCH, DJ GREEN LANTERN

I went to see Iron Man this past weekend and shit was dope, so you should definitely go watch that if you haven’t already. There were only a couple things that really got on my nerves: first off, I was waiting to see Tony Starks himself, Ghostface Killah, and had been using it as an excuse to listen to Iron Man non-stop, but was severely disappointed to find out that his scene got cut. Shit, even Sam “Big Kahuna Burger” Jackson’s scene got pushed to after the credits. Second, and more annoying was the nerdiest group of 30-year-old’s I’ve ever had the misfortune of laying eyes on and sat directly behind me, yelling out what I can only guess were catch phrases from the comic book, every gd chance they could get. I mean, I’d be getting in to the movie, eating my popcorn and raisinets, and then out of no where I hear this dude yell, “PHOTON CANNON!” in my damn ear. By this point, they’ve probably all watched it around 3x, so feel safe and go watch if you can.

But while my ass was in a movie theatre getting bum-rushed by Star Trek geeks, DMV’ers NandoMcFlyy. & Lyriciss made their way up to NYC to perform at Deadstock’s sneaker event. They sent over some footage and from the sounds of it they put on a dope show. The video up there is of their performance and the other videos are a short-film of their whole trip up there and the of the venue itself, some funny stuff in there. Shout outs to NandoMcFlyy., Lyriciss and that whole Prolific Ent. crew who are making some moves.

Be on the lookout for mixtapes by both this summer. You can be sure we’ll have them up here.

(catch the first three parts after the jump)

Static Major

I got this track a couple days ago but I haven’t been able to post sooner. It features R&B artist and Lollipop crooner Static/Major, who just recently passed away in February from a botched surgery,  as far as I know is the last track he got to work on. Static/Major provided the hook for Lollipop (that motherf****ing song) and Weezy F returns the favor by getting on this track.

This track has summer jam written all over it with the heavy production and basically the same formula (minus the lame-ass “metaphor” Curtis and 1000 other 8th graders already used) that got Lollipop to that #1 spot. Grab it now before its everywhere.

Static/Major feat. Lil’Wayne — I Got My

Damn it’s been a while since I put a post up. Matter of fact, I think an entire blog has ceased to be and rose from the ashes since my last post (Shout out DCtoBC!). I think every college kid I know has about a .8 blood caffeine content between last week and this week. And its not like the weather has been much help for anything. On one side, it rains for about 5 days straight and is cold as fuck, and then the next day its 80 degree weather. And oh yea, VA had about 6 tornados within about a 48 hour period. Its like every college student pulled a Storm (see: Halle Berry) and through a pissed-off mood pulled down a twister.

Its all almost over now though and the weather is kinda shifting that way too, and these tracks really put me in that party mood. Both tracks feature this kid named Donnis from the ATL.

The first track I first heard on the Benzi X Boogie Motivation Mixtape (I’ll post that in a bit) that was released a couple months back (damn almost half a year already?!) and I thought it was pretty dope. I’m pretty sure this is the track that blew out one of my speakers. Donnis is touring with Benzi, so I guess the mixtape makes sense now, and they just officially released this mastered version.

Donnis — Party Works

The second track is a remix of Santogold’s audio interpretation of a bukkake session “Creator”, now featuring Donnis (that paints a picture.) I swear the first time I heard Creator I felt like it belonged in one of those graphic as shit “Ichii the Killer”-type Japanese movies. I still like the track though, so go ahead and grab those.

Santogold feat. Donnis — Creator Remix

Working on set of new movie

New pics of Halle Berry leaked on to the internets. Her next role calls for her to feed all the children on the entire continent of Africa.

She’s got huge boobs now is what I’m tryin to say.

[more pics over at wwtdd]

Soccer-Heads

I hate these red bastards, but I can’t hate this goal. Ridiculous, even if you don’t like soccer.

I saw this live last night cause I had to much shit to do last night to go out to the Save Darfur show @ Georgetown. Rising Up killed it and I’m most definitely going to go buy my copy of Rising Down, so digg in to your pockets and go buy it too.

Where are we?[Sorry homies this is another post that asks for some reading. Theres a track at the end for those that last long enough. Or those that know how to click read more]

As a latino and a minority I’ve had to get used to a certain degree of prejudice, which in itself is a sad indicator, but it’s when something goes beyond that threshold that something goes off and you really start asking yourself, where the fuck are we? How the hell can something like this still be happening today? What the fuck am I supposed to do exactly??

Bad news and buses come in two’s and three’s, I’ve always been told, and the past few days haven’t proved to be any exception to the rule.

Angry White People at a rally

Pardon the interruption from your regularly scheduled music, but this story was forwarded to me and its all over the internets.

We usually dont dip into the political pool here at SOTL but you really owe it to yourself to know what your governmento is up to. Now i’m not trying to say you should go grow your hair out start writing letters to your congressman(or woman) and start sipping soy-latte’s…but just know.

Anyways, that rat bastard Ashcroft got his ass handed to him when he went to give a speech at Knox college a few days ago. He was asked about water torture and shit went to hell. Jackass decided to say that forcing water isn’t the same as pouring water when it comes to waterboarding. Here’s the video:

Heres the link to her story.

Godamit I hope there were some brown/black people in there, but odds are against many from the 4% blacks or 4% latinos being in there. Do your thing, frustrated white people.

I had a link to this video in my inbox and it was too funny not to post.

The Pharcyde

Fuck those Guerilla Union bastards.

“Oh man, we’re so cool…we can get whoever the hell we want to tour this summer and send them where ever we want. NY? You got it. Boston? Why not, we can go there. Canada? It’s not in the country but fuck it, sure. DC, Maryland OR Virginia?? [laugh hysterically] I’d rather be stuck on an island with Fat Joe, 50 Cent & a bottle of body oil.*”

*direct quote
Anyways, Guerrilla Union is getting ready for their Rock the Bells tour and Wale was invited. They have a pretty dope lineup.

Representing the viagra-endorsed half of the ticket:

  • A Tribe Called Quest
  • De La Soul
  • Rakim
  • Method Man & Redman
  • Raekwon
  • Ghostface
  • Nas
  • Mos Def
  • Immortal Technique
  • Dead Prez
  • The Pharcyde

The fresh-fish half:

  • Wale
  • B.O.B.
  • Kid Sister
  • Santogold
  • The Cool Kids
  • Spankrock
  • Flosstradamus
  • Kidz in the Hall

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that this is gonna be one of the better tours of the summer. Good thing for us we’re so close to New York or Boston. Unless of course you’re reading this and are Canadian, in which case you have a show in each of your two cities.

you can watch the video of the announcement and the artists themselves after the jump, if you’re into that kinda stuff.

*loose interpretation

You can look the acts up on myspace. I do too much for you anyways.

in unrelated news…ghostface has a cameo in the new iron man movie and the movie looks intense. Those of you up on your wu-knowledge know why.

and on a completely different tone…for some of you NoVA kids: last year you had Bone Thugs & Naughty by Nature for Mason Day; this year Gym Class Heroes will be performing at Mason tonight at around 6:15 PM (15? whatever, I’m just the messenger). There’ll be performances all day long on campus.

GCH is thats your thing

Reason #2 to like B.O.B:

Reason #1: Mean mug skit from the mixtape (which we so gladly gave you way down there)

There were some pictures of the shoot for this video a bit ago on elitaste. Here’s the final cut for the video. Watch.

This Friday is Inner Loop Records 8th monthly beatdown at Club Five. Providing for the “niche market of hip hop consumers who look for hip hop in raw doses minus the corporate hype” as they describe in their press packet, these dudes are serious entrepreneurs in their work and this Friday they’re showcasing upcoming producers Illmind, Choppy Chop, Rico Anderson, T2 & E-Minah, with production credits for artists such as 50 Cent, Prodigy, LL Cool J, The Game, Paul Wall & Priest Da Nomad. There’ll be DJ’s spinning the 1’s and 2’s between the showcase rounds and a performance by Philly’s Army of the Pharoahs clan.

It should be a good night.
